Tips On What Teeth-Staining Foods Your Child Should Limit Or Avoid

Teeth - Southwoods Smile Squad

As adults, we know that coffee and red wine gets us in trouble when it comes to keeping our teeth shiny and bright, but what about our children? Certain foods and drinks that line the grocery store shelves are prone to staining or discoloring teeth. Now, you don’t necessarily need to cut these types of food and drink out of your diet completely, however it would be a good idea to eliminate the cola and juices which not only stain but cause a lot of tooth decay.

Some foods and drinks known to discolor your teeth include:

  • Fruit Juices
  • Berries
  • Tomato-based Sauces
  • Cola

So, what can you do about teeth discoloration? Let us share a few simple tips to keep your teeth glowing.

  • Discontinue the use of fruit juice and cola given to your child: If your child is going to be drinking one of these drinks, we recommend that they use a straw. This allows your child to drink the desired drink without it swishing around one’s mouth.
  • Bite into some crunchy produce: Eating plenty of crunchy fruit and veggies, like apples and carrots, boosts saliva and scrubs your teeth, acting as natural stain remover.
  • Brush away: Make sure you are using your toothbrush at least twice a day. An electric toothbrush can more effectively remove stain.
  • Drink Plenty of Water: Swishing some water can help clean out your mouth.
